On May 12 2022 The Chicopee Pacers softball team went into this game with 100% confidence on this moderately warm, cloudy evening. The Pacers were going up against a rival team across the city, Chicopee comp. The girls of Chicopee Comp also went into this game with 100% confidence but were slayed by the Pacers in the final inning with the resulting score being 15-6 Pacers win with Chicopee Comp leaving the field in shambles.
Up to bat was number 12 for Comp getting out at first and leading the Pacers to start off hot and leading the next 2 girls to get struck out. In the second half of the first inning number 3 sets up a first base hit for the Pacers. Going into the second inning the Pacers lead 1-0. To start off the second the Comp Colts number 5 hits a home run in center left field tying up the game 1-1. The next 2 batters strike out for Comp to make the Pacers up to bat. In the second half of the second inning number 12 gets a point making it 2-1 Pacers lead. To keep the bat hot for the Pacer, number 25 hits a triple and makes it home to give the Pacers a 3-1 lead.
In this eventful third inning number 3 struck out for Comp. The bat kept cold and there were 0 points for Comp in the third inning. The Pacers were up to bat and were revving to go. Number 4 for the Pacer hits a single and steals second as she sprints to the home plate to make the score 4-1. Both number 13 and 7 cross home plate to make the score 6-1. Number 25 hits another triple and scores again for the Pacers making it 7-1 at the bottom of the third. For the bland 4th inning all 3 batters struck out for Comp. The Pacers fans were heckling the Colts as when every batter left to the dugout the crowd said “SMELL YA”. There were no runs in the 4th inning.
In the 5th inning Comp went on a run scoring 3 times making the score 7-4. To end this run for the Colts the Pacer got an out at first. The Pacers were up to bat as number 3 hit a double and number 4 brought 2 players home to make the score 9-4. The Pacers get another point making it 10-4. With bases loaded the Pacers get 2 more points with 2 force walks to first to make it 12-4. At the top of the 6th number 20 for Comp walks to first and fails to steal second. The next 2 batters for Comp strike out as the Pacer crowd taunts the Colts saying “SMELL YA”. With the Pacers again up to bat number 1 and 4 score making the score 14-4. And at the bottom of the 6th inning the Pacers were ahead 15-4.
In the short but eventful 7th inning the Colts got 2 runs with a game ending catch in left field as the final score was 15-6 pacers. After the game i took time to speak with Jai-Lyn Garvin-Martin as i asked her “How does it feel to win this game” as she responded with “it feels good to get even against Comp. The girls of the Chicopee high school softball team will face West Springfield next at their home on May 13, 2022 at 4:00 P.M.
