LeBron vs. MJ: The GOAT Debate

By Travis Preston

Jordan is the greatest basketball player ever and LeBron isn't even close.

Just some of Jordan's accolades include Rookie of the Year, 5 time NBA MVP, 6 time NBA Champion, 6 time NBA Finals MVP, 10 time NBA First Team, 9 time All Defensive First Team, Defensive Player of the Year, 14 time All Star, 3 time NBA All Star MVP, and Ten Scoring Titles. While LeBron has 4 NBA Championships, 4 Finals MVPs, 4 NBA MVP, 17 time All Star, 3 time All Star MVP, Rookie of the Year, 6 time All Defensive Team, and 1 Scoring Title. Looking at these statistics you can clearly tell Jordan is the better player when it comes to accolades.

Jordan spent 15 years in the league and averaged 30.14 points per game. Which is 1st all time. As well as averaging 5.3 assists and 6.2 rebounds. LeBron's all time stats are 27.06 points per game, 7.4 assists, 7.5 rebounds per game and is currently in his 16th season.

Jordan averages about 3 more points, but LeBron averages about 2 assists and 1 rebound more than Jordan. Jordan went to the finals 6 times and won all 6 times he was there. While LeBron has been to the finals 10 times and only won 4 times. Therefore Jordan's championship win record is better.

People would argue that LeBron is better than Jordan due to efficiency and the fact that he is a better passer and rebounder than Jordan. Although he is a better passer and rebounder it isn't by much. Jordan's all-time field goal percentage is 49.7 percent while LeBron's is only about 1 percent higher at 50.5 percent. Jordan's three point percentage is 32.7 while LeBron's is 34.5 percent.

LeBron is a better three point shooter, but is also in an era where the three point shot is taken more frequently and is a more important part to the game. Jordan is also a better free throw shooter shooting 83.5 percent to LeBron's 78.1 percent. LeBron also has more all time points than Jordan, but this is due to the fact that he has played about 300 more games than Jordan.

Jordan has more total championships and MVPs than Lebron, as well as being undefeated in the finals. Jordan also has more total accolades than Lebron in almost every category while playing less games. On top of that Jordan is the superior defender having more all defensive teams than LeBron and a Defensive Player of the Year award which LeBron never won.

Jordan is better than LeBron and there are clear statistics to back that up. He has more accolades than LeBron and is a better all around player. Jordan also is undefeated in the finals and has more accolades while playing less games. Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time.
