Wilt Chamberlain, what about him? He is significantly more dominant than Shaquille O'Neal in almost every way, Stay mad. Some might rebut my claim that Shaq is, in fact, the most dominant player in NBA history.
Some reasons an opponent of my viewpoint may cite this is because of Shaq's staggering size, dunking ability, and his defensive skill. These are all valid points but I would have to disagree. Shaq didn't do anything at a higher level than wilt.
Wilt’s more dominant than Shaq. Statistically Wilt in his best season ever averaged 50.4 points with 25.7 rebounds. During Shaq's best season he averaged 29.7 points with 13.6 rebounds.
Shaq won MVP 1 time while Wilt won it 4 times. Wilt and Shaq are the same height both at a staggering 7’1, but Shaq has 50 more pounds on Wilt at 324 Lbs.while Wilt is more slender at 275 Lbs.
Wilt went up against more competition than Shaq. Wilt played in the NBA for 13 seasons from 1960-1973. while Shaq played 18 seasons from 1993-2011. While Shaq played in the NBA there were 27 teams in total so talent in the NBA was more spread out among teams. While Wilt played there were 8 teams.
You can say Wilt went up against worse players, but when Wilt played there were less teams, so there weren't as many players with just as much talent as when Shaq played like Bill Russell, Oscar Robertson, and Bob Pettit.
People believe that Wilt Chamberlain played against no height , that isn't true. The average center in Wilt's prime was heavier and taller than they are now. Back in the 60s there was far more talent and size.
Team success would have to go to Shaq because Shaq won 4 championships while Wilt won 2. But Wilt had 1 other good player he played with and that was Elgin Baylor. When Wilt had had competition in the 60s because he went against a Celtics team that had 7 halls of farmers.
Is Shaquille O'Neal the most dominant NBA player ever? No it is indeed Wilt “the stilt” Chamberlain.
Wilt went up against better talent, he was better statistically his whole career. The only category you can give to Shaq is team success.
